I believe in miracles, and I believe in healing. I believe in a God Who is so much bigger than I can imagine Him to be that anything is possible. I also believe that sometimes healing must not be what He needs for us, or it would happen to everyone. ~ Sara Frankl, Choose Joy
Why are some people healed from their illness and others aren’t? That’s a question I think most of us have asked at one time or another.
In chapter 7 of Choose Joy, Sara gives a beautiful viewpoint to this question that haunts so many of us.
I don’t think healing is about who puts their faith on the line better; I think it’s about fulfilling a mission. Some are healed because that miracle will spur some on to faith. Some are not healed because that suffering will help others in some way. I’m not big enough to know which should be true for me. I trust God to make that decision. I am open to either option and I believe that if healing is meant for me, He’ll make that happen. ~ Sara Frankl, Choose Joy
Let that just sink in for a second.
Did you ever think that maybe God has a use for your illness? Or your pain? Or your life experience?
We live in a fallen and broken world. Because of that, we’re all equally susceptible to hardship. Illness, hardship, and pain are not always brought on, or kept, due to a lack of faith.
My heart aches for those that are told they must be living in sin or have a lack of faith or else they would be healed. How hurtful!
I wonder if it ever occurs to these people that it might take as much, if not more, faith to get through life with an illness or disability than it would to be healed. Just by reading Sara’s words, I feel I know she had a very strong faith. And what about Joni Eareckson Tada, have you ever read anything by her? Her faith is remarkable!
Whenever I hear someone say sin or a lack of faith is involved I try to remind them of the story of Job in the bible. The trials, heartache, pain, and grief he endured were proof of his faith and righteous living. Not caused by a lack thereof.
